Have you ever witnessed something around you that you have been through before, but it was happening to someone else? I have. It is as if God wanted to show you what your life used to be like.

Before I get into this story, there is a few details that you need to know. From ever since I was in Kindergarten, I never had a “traditional” family structure because my parents were divorced. It was difficult for my small brain to comprehend what was happening at the time. I came from a broken family. I had a toxic relationship with my biological father, which caused several  problems in my past. Thank goodness, God had a plan for my mom, sister, and I. It is still a huge blessing that God provided us with a much different and peaceful life we have now. With that being said, I will get into the moment where God recently showed me a little glimpse of my past.

It was the month of May, my family and I traveled all the way to Arkansas to see one of my cousins graduate High School. His graduation was literally the largest I have ever been to, since he had around five hundred classmates graduating with him! It was definitely a new experience because when I graduated High School, my class was really tiny.

After the graduation ceremony, it was a struggle heading back to the parking lot because of so many people around us and our car was miles away from the Football Stadium. At this point, it was already dark outside, so you could imagine how hectic it was!

I remember this moment like it was yesterday. My family and I were still walking through parking lots. All of a sudden, I heard a deep voice yelling at someone and I didn’t realize what was happening at first.

I saw this girl getting into her car. She was wearing a graduation gown and had many medals and chords around her neck. She looked heartbroken and terrified with tears streaming down her face. Those are not the emotions you should be feeling especially right after this huge accomplishment of graduating High School.

There was this man close by her and he looked angry. His voice was the one I heard in the beginning. He was yelling at her in the parking lot and made a scene in front of everyone. I remember the girl saying something about how he ruined her life and that he was never happy for her.

I honestly kept on watching and listening, while we carried on walking through the parking lot. Everything felt like it was in slow motion. I believe God gave me a glimpse of what my life would still be like if I kept my biological father around up to when I graduated.

That used to be my life. He would make scenes just like the father did to his daughter who just finished High School. I would also cry in public like the girl did. When I witnessed that happening to her, I felt so blessed I don’t have to go through that anymore.

I wanted to go up to the girl and say, “Everything is going to be ok and God will get you out of this mess. He has a plan for you and He is so proud of everything you have accomplished. God loves you and He does not want this for you. You do not deserve this kind of life. You are worth so much to God and let Him be Your Father. I will keep you in my prayers.”

I didn’t say any of that, but I wish I would have. I felt like I would only make things worse between the father and daughter, so I prayed for her while all of that was happening instead. I still hope and pray that she has a better life right now.

The entire situation was eyeopening for me. I used to dwell over what happened in my past and it impacted me emotionally. I am at a much better place in my life and I have grown more closer to God. I am stronger than ever because of everything I have been through.

I will always be open about difficult situations in my life, since I know there are young, teenage girls even guys out there who are currently in a toxic relationship with one of their family members.

If that is you, I want you to know that it does get better and you will come back from this stronger than ever. God will lead you out of this. Remember, He always has a purpose for your pain. You will get through this. You’re an OverComer!
