In this world today and all of societies’ “standards,” some people may find it difficult to love their self for who they are because they are focusing more on wishing they were a totally different person. A few people even compare themselves to another individual. Are we truly loving ourselves when we do that? No, we definitely aren’t. Did you know that some people also edit their images to make them look like a totally different person?? Yep, you’re wishing for something that can’t be achieved. A while back, I wrote a blog post about how social media is a highlight reel. So if you haven’t read it already, I encourage you to do so!

I ask that you take a minute and think about what it means to genuinely love yourself.

If you find it difficult to love yourself and accept you for who you are, here are some tips that I have found to help me. At the end of this blog post, I hope you find something to take away from it. You’re beautiful and you should believe it!

1. Put On A Flattering Outfit That Makes You Feel Confident

I don’t know about you, but “dressing cute” always makes me feel confident and that I can conquer anything the world throws at me! This also one of my favorite outfits to wear for Church. Trust me on this, when you put on an outfit that you love to wear, you will feel so much better about yourself! Even if you’re a guy reading this, you can “dress handsomely” as well. So this tip is for everyone to do and I encourage you to try it!

2. Place sticky notes where you can see them with sayings like “you’re beautiful!”

Yep, this is an un-edited picture with me without makeup! No, I don’t ever edit pictures of myself. I’m saying “un-edited” because I did nothing to this picture and I didn’t slap a filter on it!

When I started thinking about tips on how to love yourself, this idea popped up in my mind. I don’t know why, but God was telling me to take the picture without any makeup on so I did. This is also another way to love yourself. You can’t forget to love your no-makeup self because you are also beautiful without it! I know, you can’t live without makeup or even go out in public without it on your face. I totally understand because I was the girl who would constantly put a full face of makeup on every single day and the foundation would be full coverage too. That’s another whole entire blog post on why I stopped and what I wear on my face now… so that might be coming soon, if y’all are interested!

Anyways, by putting those little sayings on sticky notes and then placing them where you will be reading them every day, will make you feel better about yourself. They also serve as reminders because we tend to be all caught in the distractions in this so-called life and forget why we were created in the first place.

With that being said, sticky notes are your friend. I do this tip too because as you can see in the first picture, I have sticky notes all over my mirror! I challenge you to write a motivational quote on a sticky note about something that will help you get through this month. It can be about something you struggle with and add a positive twist to it. Put it somewhere you know you will look at it. For instance, your mirror and look at it every day to remind yourself.

3. As you wash your hands, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you’re beautiful.

I remember at one of the Catholic Youth Conferences I attended in High School, one of the motivational speakers gave this tip to hundreds of women that were there. How many of you hardly ever look in the mirror at yourself when you wash your hands? I know, I’m not the only one who does this! When you start making this a habit in your daily life, your mindset will change and you will also think differently about how you view yourself. If you haven’t done this before, I encourage you to try it!

4. Surround yourself with people who are positive

Out of all of these tips I am giving you, this one is so important to do and it is one of the hardest ones! Honestly, when you are constantly around people who are negative all of the time, it affects your own thoughts as well. It will make you feel horrible about yourself to the point you start picking yourself apart. Like I have said, your thoughts are shaped by who you are around the most. Would you rather surround yourself with people who lift you up and love being around you or people who always gossip about others and make you feel absolutely terrible? You’re not alone in this because I’m still working on it too, even though I have learned the hard way. When you start surrounding yourself with people who are positive, you will notice that your life will change for the better and it’s acceptable to cut people off who are toxic to your life, that’s the process of loving yourself. It’s called self-love.

5. Never settle for nothing less

This quote by Steve Jobs is on point! Even if it’s a relationship, your job, or something you’re really passionate about, don’t settle for anything less. Know your worth and trust me, you’re worth so much more! This fifth way to genuinely love yourself brings me back to when I was in the publishing of my book, Kylie’s Corner. Ha, there were times where I didn’t like something and asked the designers to change it. I would also provide an example of how I wanted things, so they can see what I was envisioning! Yep, typical me! However; In my mind, I didn’t want to settle for anything less than I deserved and the outcome of it was so worth it! I’m so thankful for that mindset I had and I’m still proud of myself for only listening to what God wanted me to do.

I’m telling you this because when you don’t tell yourself, “it is, what is” and just accept it even though you’re not happy, you will regret it later on. My sweet friend, know your worth and truly know that you deserve it!

6. Don’t be so hard on yourself!

This is another one that is so important! Sometimes when something doesn’t go as planned or when it doesn’t meet the “standard of perfection,” we tend to be so hard on ourselves. Why do we tear ourselves apart when things go wrong?? We aren’t meant to be perfect, that’s not why God created us. It’s okay to not have your entire life together. It’s okay to accept it for what is and move on. You’re doing the best you can do and that’s all you can do for now. So, take a deep breath in and breathe out! Not everything is meant to be perfect. When you do this, you will start loving yourself more.

7. Outrun your negative thoughts with positive ones

Your thoughts will run your life. Believe it or not, your thoughts reflect your actions. I challenge you when you start noticing how you have been negative, quickly change it to a positive one. For instance, when you say, “I can’t do this!” try changing it to “What should I do to achieve this because I know I can do it!” Come on, believe in yourself!

8. Do whatever makes you happy

This quote is so true! In order to love yourself more, you need to “take actions required for your happiness.” Think about your happiness for once instead of worrying about what people may think about you. Your happiness should always come first and let everything else flow from it. It is honestly so worth it when you start doing things that make you happy and not just because someone wants you to do something. That’s the thing about self-love, it’s okay to do things for yourself and don’t ever feel guilty about it! Now, here’s the last way to genuinely love yourself…

9. Take a break from Social Media

Yep, you read that right! We all need a break from social media because it can honestly become emotionally draining to our lives. We’re constantly on it 24/7. We get bombarded with all of the news, politics, new laws, negative posts, fighting, gossip, and so on. Social media can become toxic to our lives that we don’t even realize it. It’s so exhausting. If you take a break from social media once in a while, you will be doing your future self a favor and you will love yourself even more for doing that. At the end of the day, it’s about your needs. Don’t worry, I also need to work on this too. I also got this idea about spending your time away from social media by my fellow blogger friend, Jessica! She talks about 5 Quick Ways To Relieve Stress, I encourage all of you to go check it out! I truly needed to read that blog post of hers, so thank you, Jessica!

When you find the time, please listen to “Beautiful” by MercyMe.

“You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. In His eyes, you’re beautiful. You were meant for so much more than all of this.”

Out of these nine ways to genuinely love yourself, I hope you find something that you will start implementing in your daily life. I know, this blog post was a long one and to those who read it from start to finish, thank you so much! You’re beautiful just the way you are.

      1. I created this blog back in July of last year, but I have been writing in the Church Bulletin for my church for almost five years now! I have my own column in it, which it’s called “Kylie’s Corner.” Hence that’s why my blog is called Kylie’s Corner & More☺️ so I was 16 when I started doing that and I’m 21 now.

      2. I have some of the past ones back from when I first started and it’s on my blog under the Home page called, “Samples of My Work.” Also, when you’re reading the blog posts under the Kylie’s Corner Category, those are what I put in the Church Bulletin every week! Of course, I do a short version of the blog post to put in the Church Bulletin for the parishioners to read so you’re basically reading them already! I hope that makes sense😊
