“I’m Thankful For Your Scars.”

This blog post is actually inspired by a song I heard on the radio as I was driving home from class one day. It’s called, “Scars” by I AM THEY. Like always, I’ll link the music video down below so y’all can listen to it.

I remember the first time I listened to it and tried to analyze each lyric. The song reminded me of my past and all the scars it left me.

The song starts off by the singer waking up to a new sunrise and how he can see clearly now. He goes on by saying how he went through a lot of pain, but He wouldn’t change anything about it. Then says, “my brokenness brought me to You and these wounds are a story You’ll use.” That lyric is what got me the most when I was listening to this song on the radio! Can you relate to the song lyric, too?

I can. Honestly, everything I went through in my past brought me closer and closer to Jesus. My Faith in Him is stronger than ever because I know He will never leave me stranded. I love the lyric, “these wounds are a story You’ll use” because it is the reason why I’m always open about my past on here and when I write about it, it never fails to inspire me! I know, there are people out there who are afraid to tell their own story to other’s and tend to close up when it comes to talking about their past. I get it. We shouldn’t be ashamed of what Jesus led us through because I know He will use your story to inspire someone else who truly needed to hear what you had to say. That is another reason why I write. I’m thankful for my scars.

Without our scars, we wouldn’t be the same person we are today and that’s what gets me the most. Here’s an example for y’all so some of you know that I came from a broken home ever since I was in Kindergarten. You can read more about that here. I honestly didn’t know what was going on at the time and was clueless about what the word “divorce” meant. Because of this, my heart has a special place for children whose parents are divorced, especially when the child or children have to go to the other parents’ house every other weekend. I was once that child and without that tiny piece of me, I wouldn’t be so understanding when it comes to children having family problems.

Every little scar you have is a piece of you and you shouldn’t be ashamed to tell your story to people.

Now, the singer goes on by saying:

“I’m thankful for Your scars. ‘Cause without them I wouldn’t know Your heart. And with my life, I’ll tell of who You are.”

These are the lyrics that surprised me the most because the beginning of the song was about how the singer was thankful for his own scars and now, he is saying how he is thankful for Jesus’ scars!

Jesus went through so much leading up to Him dying on the cross for us and His scars were clearly visible to others. The thing about this song is that before the song came on, the singer was explaining the meaning behind it. The I AM THEY band said how we shouldn’t hide our scars because look at what happened to Jesus – His scars were visible to everyone and when people were hitting Him, He let it happen. Why, you ask? Because that is how much He loves us and He would do it all over again just for us. Yes, He loves you! Jesus is our example to live by because we should let our scars be visible to everyone around us. Your scars become lighthouses for those who are headed to the same rocks you hit. Remember that!

Every scar of yours is a part of who you are.
