There are so many things going on in the world right now and it’s easy to get lost in all of it. It’s also a stressful time for so many of us. Maybe you have anxiety because you are afraid of losing your job. Maybe you don’t know how you’re going to pay your bills next month. Maybe you are worrying about what life is going to look like once the new semester starts in August. Maybe you don’t even know when you will be able to take your certification exam and the thought of that worries you – honestly, this is me! I was planning on getting the exam out of the way this Summer, but most testing centers are still closed, so I have just been studying like crazy for this huge exam! I truly believe everything happens for a reason and I’m trying my best to look on the positive side: God is giving me more time to study and I’m grateful for that.
I’m also trying my best to stay calm instead of having so much anxiety or worrying about so many things. This Summer feels so weird compared to all of the Summers I have had in college and I guess it’s because of not knowing what life is going to look like once college starts again. Usually, it feels like this huge break off, but it doesn’t feel like that because of constantly thinking about this coming semester.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way and I know someone reading this has anxiety and is fearing the unknown as we speak. That is why I figured I should give y’all some ideas about how you can stay calm and these things are what helps me to calm down!

Ways to Help You Stay Calm
1. Pray
Talking to God about anything and everything helps me to keep on going. Yeah, life might be difficult right now, BUT it isn’t going to stay like this forever. God has showed me that every single time I go through something difficult, I come out of it so much stronger than I was before.
Everything happens for a reason. You have to be able to trust God with your entire life and go wherever He leads you to next.
Also, don’t be afraid to just cry it out to God. Even when it seems you are unable to find the words to say because you’re crying, God knows from listening to your heart. He knows exactly what you’re going to say even before you think it, so cry it out. Afterwards, you will pick yourself up again and realize that God’s got you; He will never leave your side.
Praying to God helps me to fully trust Him every single day and all of my worries and anxiety disappears.
2. Yoga
The next thing that helps keep me calm is doing yoga in the mornings! Sometimes it is a struggle to be consistent because of wanting to just do nothing and stay in bed instead. However, when I feel like I’m being productive, I can tell a difference in my day and how I feel overall versus when I don’t do anything at all throughout my day!
Yoga helps to relieve any of the tension you may have in your body and it helps reduce stress, too. When I do yoga, it helps me feel so much better mentally and physically. Trust me, yoga is going to help calm you down!
I have talked about doing yoga in my recent workout routine in this blog post here.
3. Getting Adjustments & Acupuncture
I have talked about telling a difference in my mental and physical health when I don’t get adjustments and acupuncture done regularly in this blog post. I also discuss how I felt once I realized that my body needed adjustments and acupuncture because I stopped going to the chiropractor for a couple of months.
I don’t know what it is, but I feel so much better after every chiropractor appointment I go to! I also didn’t realize that something simple as getting adjustments would help with my time of the month and it has been less painful ever since I started doing adjustments and acupuncture.
If you don’t know what acupuncture is, it’s basically a small needle that goes into your skin and what it does, it helps to increase blood flow and reduce inflammation. I remember the first time I got acupuncture done, I thought it would be painful and I was so scared, but I wanted to try it because I was curious to see if it would help me – I was up to trying anything! But, acupuncture isn’t painful at all and it feels like a mosquito is on you, so it’s not that painful! I also lie on my back for 15 minutes while the needles are in my body and during those 15 minutes, it’s such a peaceful and quiet time. During this time, I talk to God and I also repeat positive thoughts to myself.
I didn’t realize my body needed these two things until I started going regularly and they both help me so much, especially with staying calm!
4. Journaling
I recently began writing down all of my thoughts after each day and how I felt. I write down every little thing that comes to mind on a simple notebook and you can do this with any notebook, you don’t have to find the most prettiest notebook to journal in!
My Primary Doctor recommended this when I told her I had a difficult time going to sleep and staying asleep. For the longest time, I didn’t listen to her because I didn’t think it would help me sleep better.
I haven’t done this for that long, but I love the thought of just writing everything I’m thinking and how I’m feeling down on paper and then just simply forgetting those thoughts because I already it down in my notebook!
Even if you’re angry, write it down. Even if you’re sad to the point it makes you cry, write it down. Whatever you’re thinking, write it down!
This is going to help you with acknowledging your emotions and once you write it down, you are going to feel better about whatever it is soon.
I also love the thought of writing things down as they happen because in a few years, you can look back at them and realize how far you have come or how much stronger you are because of whatever you went through in the past.
5. Listening to Music While Going On A Walk
I love doing this, especially when I just want to get out of whatever mood I’m in or when I have so much anxiety. When I do have so many worries throughout the day, I leave everything where it is and stop whatever I’m doing, put on some workout clothes, sunscreen (I burn so easily, especially when i’m just outside for an hour, so sunscreen is always important when you will be outside!), put headphones in, grab my phone for music, and head outside!
Once I put music on and start walking, I let my mind drift to some place else instead of worrying about whatever it is. This also helps reduce stress, too! I feel so much better once I’m done with my walk for the day and I feel more positive than I did before going on a walk!
6. Staying Off of Social Media
This is the last tip that helps me to stay calm!
Awhile back, I did a Social Media Detox and I talk about that here. It was specifically a Facebook Detox and I honestly need to do that again really soon because Facebook has been toxic!
We are constantly scrolling on social media for hours without even realizing it. We are bombarded with so many conflicting and hurtful posts, which what we allow ourselves to view has potential to impact your mental health.
You might even have played the comparison game where you compare your life to someone else’s or you wish you were like another individual – that isn’t healthy at all! Social Media is simply a highlight reel and I discuss what I mean by that in this blog post!
Do something else that will steer yourself away from social media for a period of time – read a book, find a new hobby, go outside, focus on doing the things you love to do, and there are so many other things you can do that doesn’t involve social media.
When you stay off of Social Media, your mental health is going to thank you! If you haven’t taken a break from constantly being online, I encourage you to do the detox!

I hope some of these ideas that I implement in my life to help me stay calm will also help you in yours.
Peace is what I leave with you; It is My own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worries and upset; do not be afraid. -John 14:27

I added a new page to this blog and I encourage all of you to check it out! For those of you who are new here, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) in December of 2019. I have been documenting everything that I have been through and experienced – from discussing my symptoms before I knew what was wrong, all the way to what I am doing now to help my body. My goal is to balance my hormones naturally without taking birth control. I want to give other women with PCOS hope that birth control isn’t the only option. All of the details about My PCOS journey Pinterest board can be found here.

Yoga, listening to music, and writing in my journal works for me. A new one to try out is acupuncture.

I’m glad those things works for you! I can’t wait for you to try that one out!! I honestly don’t like getting shots at the Doctor, but I don’t have any problems with getting my blood drawn and I still thought acupuncture was going to be really painful for me, but I was so wrong about it!☺️

Ah! Pain is what I think of whenever I hear the word acupuncture, but if you say so, then it is worth a try!

I told a friend how to stay calm, though I must admit, I struggled with my own advice. 1) Minimize how much news you watch, 2) Don’t watch negative programming, 3) Put the smart phone away, except for work, 4) Stay away from psychic vampires, 5) Have hobbies and do cool things with your family. **Don’t worry. Let others do that. There’s always going to be problems. Don’t be pulled in.

I love your tips, especially the stay away from the news and putting your phone away! The news can take a toll on our mental health and it also instills fear in us if we let it – it’s great to be informed with what is going on in the world around us, but too much of it can become toxic! Thank you again for the tips!☺️
